          - Tinus De Jongh was forbidden to study art by his parents; took a post with a firm of decorators in Amsterdam but left after two years to concentrate on painting; painted street scenes, interiors and landscapes in Amsterdam tradition.


          - Achieved local recognition, his work was purchased by the Stedelik Museum.
          - 1921 Tinus De Jongh came to South Africa, began painting views of Cape Town; during the early years he lived in a one-room cottage at Deep River with wife and three children; painting of South African Houses of Parliament purchased by South African Government for office of High-Commissioner in London.
